When measuring insulation resistance with a megohmmeter, it is generally stipulated that the reading after one minute of shaking measurement shall prevail. Because when a DC voltage is applied to the insulator, the current flowing through the insulator (absorption current) will gradually decrease over time. The DC resistivity of insulation is determined based on steady-state conduction current, and the attenuation time of insulation absorption current varies with different materials of insulators. However, experiments have shown that the insulation absorption current of the vast majority of materials has stabilized after one minute, so it is specified to determine the insulation performance based on the insulation resistance value after one minute of pressurization.
